Job Overview
Zagar Logistics Co. Ltd (Edutrans) is seeking a highly organized Route Officer to oversee the planning, optimization, and management of school bus routes. The Route Officer will be responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and timely transportation of students while minimizing operational costs and maximizing service quality.
This role requires a strong understanding of Dar es Salaam’s road networks, traffic conditions, and school transportation safety standards. The Route Officer will work closely with drivers, school administrators, parents, and the fleet team to manage routes, track buses, and resolve operational issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Route Planning & Optimization
- Develop, adjust, and optimize school bus routes to ensure efficient pick-up and drop-off times.
- Monitor and analyze traffic patterns, road conditions, and construction updates to improve route efficiency.
- Assign buses and drivers to routes based on capacity, demand, and safety considerations.
- Ensure bus routes comply with LATRA transport regulations.
- Real-Time Fleet Monitoring
- Utilize GPS tracking systems to monitor buses and ensure adherence to planned routes.
- Provide live updates on traffic disruptions and recommend alternate routes to drivers.
- Maintain real-time communication with drivers to address any route-related issues.
- School & Parent Coordination
- Act as the primary contact for schools and parents regarding route schedules and service changes.
- Address and resolve parent concerns related to bus stops, delays, and route adjustments.
- Communicate updates on route changes, delays, or safety concerns to stakeholders.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all bus routes prioritize student safety by avoiding high-risk areas and unsafe roads.
- Conduct route audits to identify safety hazards and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with the Fleet Officer to ensure all drivers follow traffic laws and company safety policies.
- Data & Performance Analysis
- Collect and analyze route performance data, including timeliness, efficiency, and fuel consumption.
- Prepare reports on route performance, driver adherence, and operational challenges.
- Recommend improvements to reduce travel time, fuel costs, and vehicle wear and tear.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in route planning, fleet coordination, or transport logistics.
- Strong knowledge of Dar es Salaam’s road network, traffic patterns, and transport laws.
- Experience with fleet management software and GPS tracking systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with drivers, parents, and school administrators.
- Computer proficiency (Excel, Routing Software, GPS Monitoring Tools).
Work Environment & Conditions
- Office-based at Zagar Logistics Co. Ltd (Edutrans), Upanga, Ilala, with frequent field visits.
- Early morning and afternoon shifts to oversee bus dispatch and route adherence.
- Occasional evening or weekend availability for emergency route adjustments or school events.
